The Cedar Foundation

The Cedar Foundation is a Bulgarian non-profit organization which specializes in closing down large institutions for children and young people with disabilities and in building alternative social services for them into the community.

The organization's biggest project is the closure of a Home for Children with Mental Disabilities in the village of Gorna Koznitsa, region of Kyustendil. The Cedar Foundation is working in partnership with the Kyustendil municipality for the construction of 4 Family type centres, each of them accommodating 4 children.  In addition to this, The Cedar Foundation team also managed to solicit the donation of 2 municipal appartments from the municipality of Kyustendil to be used for the accommodation of 8 young adults.

In partnership with the Agency for social assistance at the Bulgarian Ministry of Labour and Social Policy The Cedar Foundation found placements for 10 of the young adults with disabilities in Protected Homes in the towns of Ardino and Marchevo and ensured a smooth transition period for them from the institution into the new services.

As The Cedar Foundation raises its own finances for the execution of our project, we came up with an idea of setting a short sms number to which people can send messages and thus donate money for the project. The short number is 17 777 with a key word of the message DMS DOM. The price of an sms is 1.20 leva with VAT. We strongly believe that by popularizing this short number, we will gain a large audience of supporters and therefore be able to even expand our closure project with the additional funds raised.
